The oldest known intact American battle flag, the Bedford flag was carried by the Bedford Minutemen at the Battle of Concord on April 19, 1775, displaying the motto “Conquer or Die.”
Following the alarm, the militia gathered at Fitch Tavern, then marched to the Old North Bridge with their commander, Captain Jonathan Wilson.
The quick response and decisive action of the Bedford Minutemen forced the disorganized British to retreat back to Boston.
